Georgia's Math program is very challenging!  We have homework on the average of 3 to 4 nights a week.  Work needs to be done when it is sent home because we often have follow-up work the next day.  Yes it does make a difference in your child's math skills.  I can tell when a child has done his/her homework, they are making better connections!   We use our 100's grid everyday!  We do tasks that connect to everyday life, like time, money.  The children see connections between  place value (Hundreds  Tens  Ones)  and counting change.  We count by 2's, 5's, and 10's also.  We learn about geometric shapes and fractions (one half=1 /out of/2 pieces.
